About Plant-a JoyWhat is Plant-a Joy? Plant-a Joy is a stable and chemically inactive polymer which has the ability of absorbing rain water to the volume of several hundred times its own weight. In other words, when mixed with soil, it works like a ‘water storage tank’. Plant-a Joy is used as a soil additive, increasing the field capacity, and improving the structure and air-water regime of the soil.
Where to use Plant-a Joy?
Plant-a Joy can be used for any types of soil or other growing media, in any climate, and for growing any sort of plants (from grass in sport fields to mushrooms). Its use is most economic in arid and semi-arid regions and with all plants sensitive to humidity changes in the soil.
How does it work?
Water in soil is distributed by the capillary system. Plant-a Joy absorbs the water, and stores it. The water, being bound to Plant-a Joy, is protected against evaporation and leaching, however it does not prevent the root from absorbing water from Plant-a Joy. Plant-a Joy directs water in soil towards the roots.
Plant-a Joy: water-retaining polymer and soil conditioner
Plant-a Joy is environmentally friendly, non-toxic product
Plant-a Joy is an environmentally friendly material. When used, water-soluble fertilizers are protected from being washed out from the soil. In addition, smaller amounts of fertilizers are needed if Plant-a Joy is used.
Plant-a Joy is a biodegradable polymer. The rate of biodegradation is 10-20% per year and depends on the microbiological activity, the temperature and the composition of soil. The products of degradation are low molecular mass compounds with fertilizing effect. Therefore practically no degradation products of Plant-a Joy remain in the soil. When exposed to sunlight, the process of degradation is accelerated.
Plant-a Joy is a colorless and neutral polymer which can absorb per gram:
Plant-a Joy swells in water, but water is loosely bound allowing for normal root absorption.
Baby Plant-a Joy
Baby Plant-a Joy for roots is a finely ground polymer having the capacity to swell in water to form a thick paste which adheres to roots. Especially helpful in bare root transplanting (convenient for long transportation or storage, e.g. in tree nurseries, greenhouses, flower shops).
Plant-a Joy applications
Plant-a Joy allows for increased agricultural production and can be used:
The basic principle in applying Plant-a Joy is that it should be mixed with soil at the same level as the main rooting system of plants. The normal dosage is 1 kg of Plant-a Joy per cubic meter of the soil or 1g per liter of soil.
Main modes of application
For planting fruit trees, for example, a hole of 50x50x50 cm is dug. The volume of the hole is therefore 125 l, which requires 125g of Plant-a Joy. Plant-a Joy is mixed evenly with the soil or compost which is then used to fill the planting hole. Plants are then watered to full field capacity.
When preparing soil for pot flowers, nurseries, greenhouses etc., Plant-a Joy is simply mixed with a growing medium (by hand, shovel or motocultivator.). The dose is 1g of Plant-a Joy per liter of soil. Before the application the mixture should be watered to its full capacity, or the required amount of Plant-a Joy should be soaked in water and then mixed with soil.
When used in beds or fields, Plant-a Joy is just strewn with hand or machine (50-150 g/m˛ of Plant-a Joy) on the surface and worked in as deep as the root system of plants goes. When planting in wider rows, Plant-a Joy is added only in rows. In cases of plants with deep root system, larger doses of Plant-a Joy should be used than for plants with shallow root system.
If the basic principles of the use of Plant-a Joy and the technology for growing plants are followed, the agricultural specialists will be able to use Plant-a Joy easily with any type of plant.
Using Plant-a Joy as additive to soil
Using Plant-a Joy in already planted areas
Using Plant-a Joy in transplanting
For transplanting vegetables, flowers, fruit trees and forest trees, apply hydrated polymer into rows or planting pocket near the roots.
